In response to the mounting insecurity in Kaduna State, Governor Uba Sani has initiated the training of an additional 7,000 vigilantes. These personnel, originating from all local government areas across the state, are undergoing training at the Police College, Kaduna.
The state of Kaduna has recently experienced an upsurge in banditry and various other forms of insecurity. A recent incident on Friday saw a group of nine bandits raid the Saya-Saya village in Ikara Local Government Area. They arrived on motorcycles, brutally killing seven individuals who were in the middle of prayer at a local Mosque.
Governor Sani, on Saturday, mentioned that the training program is a significant move towards fulfilling his commitment to augment the manpower and enhance the operational proficiency of the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS). He pointed out the challenge of insufficient personnel to effectively fight against bandits and different criminal elements.
“Our administration has made the decision to recruit 7,000 personnel into the Kaduna Vigilance Service due to this challenge,” he stated.
The Governor clarified that the recruitment process involved rigorous screening by local government chairmen, traditional and religious leaders, key stakeholders, and security agencies in their respective local government areas. Governor Sani affirmed that the recruited individuals are energetic, honest young men and women dedicated to securing their local communities.
Furthermore, Sani explained that the KADVS serves as a supportive security unit that aids other security agencies by providing actionable intelligence. He expressed confidence that their familiarity with the local terrain will leave no hiding spot for bandits.
Finally, he encouraged the newly recruited personnel to demonstrate dedication and seriousness during the training process.
